Lexington, ky. Lorenzo thomas was born in new castle, delaware in 1804 nad graduated from the military academy in 1823. Wehn the civil war began, he was chief of staff to winfield scott.
He did not get along with secretary of war stanton, and thus spent the years 1863 to 1865 in charge of recruiting african-american troops in the military division of the mississippi.
